With previous Rexit’s like the API debarcle etc. many users were left looking for an alternative, but with decision fatigue and bad UX etc. most did not find the Fediverse a viable option.

I find the inclusion of every federated instance in ‘All’ fairly annoying. New tiny/niche/vanity instances get added by default when federated. There ends up being too much duplication and stuff I’m not interested in.

I have a friend who’s thinking about checking out the fediverse, and is looking for more aerospace (& maybe mechanical?) engineering-focused spaces. Do you guys have a suggested Lemmy, Piefed, or Mastodon instance/community that focuses on those topics? Maybe even a STEM community could be good enough. I know most of us are tech nerds on here, but we’re more computer focused tech nerds 😅

Yesterday I found Interstellar which has this feature. I assume mainly because it is not only a Lemmy app, but also a PieFed one, which has this feature in the reference frontend (AFAIK).

Maybe I’ve been mind controlled, but I’m used to the algorithmic feed of youtube and reddit. The default simple reverse chronological method of mastodon is hard to use for me.

Wanted to share something with this community and see if it’s useful to anyone. Inkwell (inkwell.social) is an open source, multi-tenant social journaling platform built on ActivityPub. The goal is to fill the long-form writing gap in the fediverse in a way that’s accessible to non-technical users, not just developers who can spin up their own instance of WriteFreely or Ghost.

I had a random idea and wanted to see what people here think.

Cross posted here as it was highlighted that the individual is a lead Lemmy developer, raising serious concerns about the direction of Lemmy, a leading Fediverse platform, and the impact on future user adoption.

I’m a long time reddit user.. I should say I’m quite hooked. But lemmy feels a lot quiet. My primary interests are electronics, embedded programming, piracy 😏 and selfhosting. Apart from the last community the others are quite deserted.

Mastodon displays properly Markdown posts from other instances, but doesn’t allow creating posts with it. I’m trying to fix this. I know there is glitch-soc, but I don’t want to switch to a fork for a single feature. So is there a patch for mainstream Mastodon that adds this functionality?

My goal is to average 1 post and 7 comments a week. I started late, and not there yet, but hope to get there within the next month. Do you have any goals or plans on building the Fediverse?

I can never seem to get the page to load, the prpgress bar is always stuck when trying to access the webpage.

On mastodon side there is iftas.

In other words, can any user delete its data on its will and is there something that will remove its data from all the connected activitypub services? I believe this should actually be a basic feature and pretty much a requirement.

Hello MULTIVERSE users and off-site visitors alike. We have recently defederated fedinsfw.app due to ongoing child pornography concerns which the fedinsfw admin team are aware of, and do not intend to address. Before I explain the key issue, I’d like to define a few terms:

Is it possible to listen to music hosted on Funkwhale from Mastoson (or any other fediverse social media for that matter)? I can see user accounts (though empty), but I couldn’t get albums or songs working.

Telegram channels are sort of unique in that they combine broadcasting read-only messages and having a full-blown chat, like any other group chat. Is there anything similar in federated messengers? For now I have to split up my single community into a microblog on Mastodon and a group chat in Matrix and this is super inconvenient.

So I’ve been thinking about the whole PSKY winning the bid for WBD situation, plus a ton of other US News sites being owned and controlled by MAGA — and now that PSKY owns massive legacy brands like CNN and platforms like TikTok, it got me wondering:

So, I’ve uploaded some videos on peertube.wtf and I can’t see how large each one is, nor can I sort them. I want to be able to delete large videos if I run out of total quota. This is on version 8.0.1.
