PCSX2 Online Split Screen play, possible?

submitted by

I know this is more emulation based, but still “retro” as it’s ps1/ps2 related…maybe yall crazy modders have done this!

Hey ya’ll,

I’ve had this idea for a while, wanting to play all my PS2 games with my friend who never really got a chance to experience PS2. It’d be so great if it would just work on steam remote play, but that is broken as of now (the “remoteplay whatever” on github is the only thing I found, it is broken as of today). The only other option i’ve seen is Parsec, and you can’t host from the Linux side!! Which I need it to. I’m on linux, he’s on windows.

In my mind it’s not hard.. I need his pc’s input, and then stream my video audio to him…the same way steam remote play does it.

Any help appreciated! Even if this could work for Duckstation for ps1 games, that’d still be fun.

Sunshine server plus moonlight client should do what you want (preferably behind a VPN such as Tailscale or wireguard).

Me: Never done online emulation.

Why a VPN?

This is just for security purposes since otherwise any vulnerabilities in Sunshine could be exploited.

And to be clear, I don’t mean a privacy commercial VPN where you’re paying to hide in a crowd or change your location but just an encrypted tunnel between two (or more) computers (although they more or less use the same technology).

I’ll probably go this route!

I’m familiar with VPN but I dont really get how to use tailscale. I have it, I just dont get how to utilize it. Does my friend need it too?

Yeah, your friend would need to install it as well. Shouldn’t be an issue as there are Tailscale clients for most OSes, including mobile.

I personally don’t use the Tailscale SaaS but headscale but the gist is something like: - Open an account on tailscale.com - Create a tailnet - Your friend also opens an account - You add them to your tailnet (probably by an invite or similar)

You’ll also need to handle firewall / ACL rules. I think by default tailscale has everything open so you can start with that, but you might want to lock it down later. You will also need to make sure the machine hosting Sunshine isn’t blocking the ports itself and if it is, create a firewall rule to do so (this will depend on the particular OS/distro and what firewall tool is used).

Yes RetroArch on steam.

Soooooo, you just didn’t read the post then?

I’m not super familiar with current emulation software, but I’m not seeing where OP said anything about retroarch? They mentioned trying a different plugin called “remoteplay whatever” but unless they’re related don’t see anything about what the guy you’re getting snippy with (twice, for some reason, connection issues happen) is suggesting.

I could try retro arch too, seems like it works w steam remote play
